Dear Reader,

I was excited to attend our first Impact Collective CoLab with several inspiring data, evaluation and learning professionals. Joining the conversation, even in a space with unfamiliar faces, felt comfortable because these are my people. I've held a number of impact data-oriented roles throughout my career, and in each one, I have found it to be a professional challenge, a growth experience, an opportunity to promote change and deepen impact within an organization, but also a lonely role.

I’ve noticed the same with our clients – that those in the impact management space crave connection to like-minded professionals because they are often the sole impact data practitioner in their organization. Challenging conversations are inherently part of the role as data lifts up the need to discuss whether an organization is achieving the change it seeks, or whether something different is needed to promote positive change for those an organization is serving. These are sensitive topics, for sure, and having a community to express these challenges with, and move through them, helps us remember we are not alone.

And, we hear you. January’s CoLab filled up quickly, so we are excited to share we just opened March and will be launching additional CoLabs throughout the year. CoLabs are a space for impact data professionals to come together (5-10 per group for six months) to pose challenging questions of practice, and hear from one another in a generative, problem-solving space. In our first session we talked about, “How do I work with demographic data in a way that highlights systemic issues rather than placing blame on under-resourced groups?” (Big! ...and so important). And, “I just got promoted to Evaluation Director and there are so many programs and issues to address, where do I start? ” (Also big in a different but important way on how to be successful in your role.)

I’m passionate about all the impact data people out there in the world, and want to help you learn and make your jobs easier in service of impact. If you know someone in an impact data role at a nonprofit, please forward this email to them. And if that person is you, I hope you will join us.

You can find more details about upcoming CoLabs below. Join our Collective Coffee on February 22 to learn more about the ResultsLab Impact Collective.
