Dear Reader,

I recently attended an event that was celebrating the entrepreneurial ecosystem that has developed over time here in Colorado. The event recognized companies, like ResultsLab, that have been supported by the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network, and the invaluable network of advisors supporting those companies. The event also featured an impressive panel of some of the early visionaries that supported the launch of this ecosystem, including a now US Senator for Colorado, Colorado’s current Attorney General, one of the founders of TechStars, and the Chair of the Board of the Blackstone Charitable Foundation.

The panel spoke about the different elements that contributed to the development of this now thriving ecosystem, and a common thread they kept coming back to was this “give first” mentality that Colorado has.

As I’ve built ResultsLab, I’ve experienced that ethos. I’ve joined peer learning groups, I’ve approached many, many founders for conversations about their experience, and not one time has anyone said no. I’ve also participated in initiatives designed by the State, Denver Scale Up Network, and the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network to support the learning and development of others.

I know ResultsLab would not be where we are as a company without that “give first” mentality.

My experience with the entrepreneurial peer community in Colorado has been the inspiration for our CoLabs, which you may have heard me talk about before. CoLabs are peer groups within a larger peer community, the Impact Collective, where impact data professionals can come together, share problems of practice, and collectively share experiences about how they have addressed those problems.

A lot of 'giving' happens in those spaces - where a simple sharing experience leads to new perspectives, new insights and new ways to solve problems. In that process of 'giving', there's lots of 'getting' in return.

As we continue to cultivate a "give first" space for impact measurement learning, I’d love to hear where you’ve experienced learning with others who are giving. Please reach out or reply here for conversation!
